CAIRO - 28 April 2026: Egypt and Russia are exploring the creation of a new cross-regional logistics corridor designed to connect their maritime networks and facilitate trade between the two countries.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir and Nikolai Patrushev, a senior aide to President Vladimir Putin, alongside a delegation of Russian transport and shipping executives.

Under the proposed framework, the project would include the development of two container terminals at Egyptian ports on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean. These would be supported by adjacent industrial zones and logistics hubs, forming an integrated platform for cargo handling and processing.

The corridor would be linked via a dedicated maritime route connecting Egyptian ports with Russian ports on the Black Sea, with further extension toward northern shipping routes. The plan is expected to reduce transit times and improve the efficiency of goods movement between the two markets.

In parallel, both sides are considering expanding cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing. Russian companies have expressed interest in establishing shipyards in Egypt, producing marine equipment, and developing electric river vessels for commercial use.

The discussions also covered technical training and skills development, with potential partnerships involving Russian universities to support the development of a qualified workforce in shipbuilding and marine engineering.

Officials from both countries agreed to hold follow-up technical meetings to define a roadmap for implementation, focusing on port infrastructure, shipping lines, and industrial cooperation.

The proposed corridor aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to strengthen its role as a regional logistics hub, supported by ongoing investments in transport infrastructure, including the Egypt high-speed rail network. The government aims to enhance connectivity between production centers, ports, and international markets through integrated and efficient transport systems.
