CAIRO - 27 April 2026: Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Issa met on Monday with representatives of several Chinese companies to discuss new investment projects in the maritime transport, logistics, and manufacturing sectors.

The meeting, held at the New Administrative Capital, showcased a proposal by the Jiangsu Province Ports Group and Shanghai Huanshi Logistics to establish a container terminal at Ain Sokhna Port.

With an initial investment of $400 million, the terminal is designed to have a capacity of 2 million containers.

Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed el-Homsani said the Chinese side also proposed a $2 billion logistics and commercial city spanning 3 million square meters. Modeled after China’s Yiwu city, the project is expected to create 150,000 jobs and will include a five-star hotel, an international school, and a hospital.

Additional projects discussed include a 100,000-square-meter industrial zone by the Hurricane Group for chemical and consumer goods. The project aims to export 70% of its production to markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Chinese representatives also expressed interest in establishing a bonded warehouse to re-export used machinery to African markets.

Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), affirmed that Chinese firms are among the region's top investors and pledged full support for the new ventures.

Follow-up sessions between the Chinese firms and relevant government bodies have been scheduled to finalize cooperation frameworks.
