CAIRO – 26 April 2026: Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem met with representatives from Egypt Amun for Green Ammonia to advance discussions on establishing a large-scale green ammonia production facility in Egypt, marking a significant step in the country’s clean energy expansion plans.

The proposed project will be developed in Ras Banas and is scheduled to begin operations in 2031. Initial investments are estimated at $5 billion, with total funding expected to rise to $10 billion once the project reaches full capacity, positioning it among the largest green energy investments in Egypt.

The facility will be powered by a fully integrated renewable energy system with a combined capacity of 2,000 megawatts, drawing on both solar and wind sources. This approach supports Egypt’s long-term strategy to diversify its energy mix, cut emissions, and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels.

In addition to strengthening the country’s renewable energy infrastructure, the project is designed to serve export markets through a dedicated logistics and export framework. Annual export revenues are projected to reach approximately $490 million, supported by existing agreements with European buyers.

Officials expect the development to generate thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities, while also enhancing domestic supply chains through the localization of selected manufacturing components and services.

Minister Hashem emphasized that the initiative aligns closely with Egypt’s broader economic vision to accelerate the transition toward a green economy, expand the role of renewable energy, and foster industries linked to green hydrogen and sustainable fuel production.
