CAIRO - 20 April 2026: Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, met with a delegation from Huawei Egypt, headed by CEO Benjamin Ho and Tony Po, Head of Digital Energy, to discuss ways to support and enhance cooperation and joint work within the framework of the digital transformation plan.

The discussions focused on maximizing returns from renewable energy projects and proposing solutions to ensure the continuity and sustainability of electricity supply during peak demand periods in the summer.

This aligns with Egypt's national energy strategy and action plan, aiming to improve operational efficiency, enhance performance, reduce technical losses, lower fuel consumption, and guarantee the stability and sustainability of the electricity supply.

During the meeting, Minister Mahmoud Esmat reviewed areas of partnership, work, and cooperation with the Chinese company to support the development and modernization of the national grid and increase its capacity to absorb renewable energy.

The meeting addressed proposed solutions to ensure the security, stability, and sustainability of the electricity supply, in light of increasing demand and the growing integration of renewable energy sources.

Practical strategies for enhancing grid resilience and operational efficiency were discussed, along with how to manage the anticipated surge in electricity demand during peak summer evening hours.

The meeting also explored the use of Huawei's technologies and advanced techniques, such as Intelligent Distribution Systems (IDS), and their role in mitigating the impact of integrating distributed solar energy and energy storage on the electricity grid.

Innovative digital solutions were also discussed to support the sustainable expansion of renewable energy resources while maintaining grid stability.

MinisterMahmoud Esmat stated that Huawei is a trusted partner, and there are several areas of joint work, most importantly the transition from a conventional grid to a smart grid capable of accommodating large-scale power generation.

This aligns with the national energy strategy, which aims to reach 45 percent renewable and clean energy in the energy mix by 2028.

"Relying on modern technology is one of the most important criteria for achieving quality and efficiency within the framework of the state's digital transformation plan," Minister Esmat affirmed, as he explained that modernization and development are continuous processes to improve performance rates and enhance the level of services provided to subscribers.
