CAIRO - 18 April 2026: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that Egypt is implementing a comprehensive plan to modernize the civil aviation system, including upgrading infrastructure, improving service quality, enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening technical and human capacities, and increasing the capacity of Egyptian airports.

The remarks came during President El-Sisi’s meeting on Sunday with Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The president expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the vital role played by the organization as the global authority responsible for regulating the civil aviation sector and ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency worldwide.

He also praised the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the organization at both bilateral and regional levels, particularly in light of Cairo hosting the organization’s regional office for the Middle East.

During the meeting, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to developing the civil aviation sector, describing it as a strategic sector directly linked to comprehensive economic development, given its pivotal role in supporting trade, tourism, and investment, as well as enhancing connectivity between markets and countries.

The meeting also underscored the importance of further strengthening cooperation between Egypt and ICAO.

Samy Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation, noted that an agreement had been signed to renew the hosting of the organization’s regional office headquarters in Cairo.

He reviewed areas of technical and operational cooperation between both sides, reaffirming Egypt’s determination to build on achieved progress and continue joint efforts in the coming phase in line with the opportunities and challenges facing the civil aviation sector.
