CAIRO - 16 April 2026: Egypt’s cabinet has approved the allocation of land plots totaling 200.4 feddans to support desalination projects and industrial expansion, as part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure and boost investment.

A 60.44-feddan plot in Borg El Arab, Alexandria has been designated for seawater desalination plants under the country’s long-term strategy to expand water capacity through 2050 in partnership with the private sector.

In a separate move, the government allocated 139.96 feddans in Abu Khalifa, Qantara West, in Ismailia. The land will be incorporated into the Abu Khalifa industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone to support the development of an industrial and services hub under the special economic zones framework.

The cabinet also approved allowing Al-Azhar University to appoint a private consultancy firm to oversee the finishing phase of a maternity and childhood facility at its university hospital in Damietta.

Additionally, the government cleared the establishment of a new joint-stock company, “Arco Seeds,” led by the Agricultural Research Center in partnership with the Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Authority, the Agricultural Bank of Egypt, the National Company for Protected Crops, and private sector participants.

The company will focus on producing vegetable and fruit seeds, supporting Egypt’s efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and localise seed production.
