CAIRO - Tuesday 14 April 2026: Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir and Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat visited the Galala mountain region to launch projects for new wind and solar power plants.

The visit follows presidential directives to utilize the unique natural potential of the area, which sits 1,800 meters above sea level with wind speeds reaching 15 meters per second.

The ministers discussed integrating solar plants with wind projects to maximize economic returns and connect the output to the national grid through the Zafarana wind farms.

Egypt aims for renewable energy to constitute 45% of its energy mix by 2028, positioning the Galala heights as a global hub for green energy production.
