CAIRO - 8 April 2026: The Official Gazette has published Presidential Decree No. 730 of 2025, issued by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, approving a financing agreement for the program titled “Support for the Implementation of Social and Economic Reforms at the Local Level.”

The agreement was signed between Egypt and the European Union and is financed through a €75 million grant aimed at supporting reform efforts at the local level.

In October 2025, President El-Sisi participated in the first Egypt–European Union Summit, held at the European Council headquarters in Brussels, marking a key step in strengthening the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the EU.

During the summit, several major agreements were concluded and new financial commitments were announced to enhance cooperation between the two sides. Among the most notable was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Macro-Financial Assistance worth €4 billion, designed to support Egypt’s economic stability.

The two parties also finalized the €75 million financing agreement for the EU support program targeting local social and economic reforms, in addition to Egypt’s accession as a partner country in the Horizon Europe program, the European Union’s flagship framework for research and innovation.
