CAIRO - 9 April 2026: Egypt’s annual urban inflation rate rose sharply to 15.2 percent in March 2026, compared with 13.4 percent in February, according to figures published by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The agency said in a statement on Thursday that monthly inflation also picked up pace, recording 3.3 percent in March, up from 2.7 percent in the previous month.
At the national level, annual inflation across Egypt increased to 13.5 percent in March, versus 11.5 percent in February, reflecting continued upward pressure on consumer prices.
Separately, a Reuters survey released earlier this week projected that Egypt’s urban inflation would reach 14.7 percent in March, driven by the economic impact of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which has contributed to rising fuel costs and currency depreciation.
The forecast represents the median estimate of 16 analysts polled by Reuters on April 6 and 7.
