CAIRO - 8 April 2026:  The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed an agreement on Wednesday with Indorama Egypt Fertilizers to establish a new phosphate fertilizer plant in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, with investments totaling $525 million for the first phase.

According to a Cabinet statement, the project will develop an integrated industrial complex for fertilizers and basic chemicals spanning 522,000 square meters, with an annual production capacity of up to 600,000 tons in its initial stage.

The facility is set to produce phosphate fertilizers and related products, with approximately 80 percent of total output allocated for export markets, supporting Egypt’s industrial and foreign currency generation efforts.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly described the project as a strategic addition to Egypt’s industrial base, particularly in sectors linked to fertilizers and mineral resources.

Meanwhile, Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of SCZONE, said the agreement reflects the zone’s growing ability to attract high-value industrial investments that rely on advanced technology and significant capital.

He added that the project will feature fully integrated production operations—from intermediate inputs to final products—helping deepen local manufacturing and strengthen value chains across mineral-based chemical industries.
