CAIRO - 8 April 2026: AngloGold Ashanti plans to produce 4 million ounces of gold at its Sukari mine in Egypt between 2026 and 2035, the company announced.

Egypt’s earnings from the mine surged 107% in 2025, reaching $612 million, including royalties, taxes, and the government’s share of profits. The company’s profit-sharing agreement exempted it from paying $239 million in taxes last year.

Sukari’s gold output increased to around 500,000 ounces in 2025, up from 481,000 ounces in 2024, a 4% rise. AngloGold Ashanti invested $262 million in the mine last year and plans $126 million in 2026 for waste management and reclamation projects.

The company also paid $53 million in royalties, at $104 per ounce sold, in addition to Egypt’s 50% share of the mine’s profits.

Located 30 kilometers south of Marsa Alam on the Red Sea coast, Sukari is the largest gold mine in Egypt and a key contributor to the country’s mining sector.
