CAIRO – 2 April 2026: Russian President Vladimir Putin signaled that Moscow is open to studying a proposal to establish a logistics hub for grain and energy supplies in Egypt, describing the initiative as one of several ideas that could further deepen cooperation between the two countries.
During a meeting with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, Putin revealed that he had already directed the Russian government to start preparations for delivering food commodities to Egypt, with a particular focus on wheat shipments. He stressed that Russia’s strong harvest levels ensure its ability to meet Egypt’s demand without constraints.
Putin noted that the decision followed his recent phone conversation with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, after which he instructed relevant authorities to assess mechanisms for expanding food supply cooperation, especially in the area of Russian wheat exports.
The discussions came as part of broader talks aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia across key sectors, including politics, trade, investment, and tourism. Officials also reviewed progress on major joint ventures, most notably the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the planned Russian Industrial Zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, alongside ongoing collaboration in energy, tourism, and food security.
