CAIRO – 31 March 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held talks with Clay Neff, President of Chevron’s global exploration and production business, to review the company’s development plans across its concession areas in Egypt, as well as its strategy to transport Cypriot natural gas to the Egyptian market.
During the meeting, Chevron’s leadership outlined several key issues, including the status of the Aphrodite gas field project in Cyprus and plans to connect it to Egypt’s infrastructure for gas processing and transportation.
Discussions also covered the proposed roadmap for implementing this connection in line with the timeline for completing the technical and commercial agreements required for the project, a move expected to strengthen regional integration in the Eastern Mediterranean gas sector.
Neff reaffirmed Chevron’s continued commitment to offshore exploration, noting that the company’s investments in drilling activities in the Mediterranean are estimated at approximately $60 million.
The meeting also reviewed progress across the two concession areas currently operated by Chevron in Egypt, while exploring opportunities for cooperation in emissions reduction, particularly through the adoption of carbon capture and storage technologies as part of the company’s 2026 investment plans. In addition, both sides discussed the potential expansion of renewable energy projects.
Neff highlighted that Chevron signed new agreements on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) to launch additional projects in Egypt, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supplying the local market with increased volumes of natural gas.
For his part, Prime Minister Madbouly expressed his aspiration to further expand the partnership with Chevron and encourage greater investment flows into the Egyptian market, including projects in both the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
