CAIRO – 8 March 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly conducted an inspection tour of the SUMED Petroleum Port in Suez Governorate to review the operational procedures for regasifying ships carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port’s marine berth.
During the visit, Madbouly also inspected the Ataka grain silos, which are used for storing wheat and supporting the country’s strategic food reserves.
The Prime Minister said the tour was aimed at ensuring the efficient operation of the floating regasification unit at the SUMED port, while also reviewing storage and handling procedures for different types of wheat at the Ataka facility.
He explained that these efforts are part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen Egypt’s preparedness to secure gas supplies for the electricity sector, allowing the country to respond effectively to any potential disruptions—particularly in light of ongoing regional tensions and their impact on global energy prices.
Madbouly also emphasized the need to enhance the country’s strategic reserves of essential food commodities, noting that proactive planning is crucial to safeguarding national stockpiles and addressing food security challenges amid current regional developments.
He added that presidential directives stress the importance of maintaining sufficient strategic reserves of petroleum products for various uses, ensuring reliable gas supplies for electricity generation to meet the needs of citizens as well as productive sectors.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the importance of securing the necessary financing to complete energy sector projects, stressing that energy security remains a key pillar of national security, alongside continued efforts to strengthen reserves of essential commodities.
