Several petroleum companies have announced fresh oil and gas discoveries in Egypt’s Western Desert, with combined production estimated at more than 5,200 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and condensates, in addition to approximately 34 million cubic feet of gas per day.
These developments come within the framework of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to offset the natural decline in output from mature fields, curb the country’s import bill, and enhance domestic production to meet the growing demand of key consumption sectors.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, Khalda Petroleum Company achieved two new gas discoveries. The first, North Obaiyed–2, located in the Matrouh Development Area, had previously been announced and tested. Results confirmed production rates of 21.15 million cubic feet of gas per day, along with 3,274 barrels of condensates. The well is scheduled to be connected to the production network by mid-month.
Khalda also recorded a second discovery at West Dabaa–2X in the West Dabaa concession area, where well tests showed output of 4.15 million cubic feet of gas per day and 336 barrels of condensates. Procedures to tie the well into the production network are currently underway.
In parallel, the General Petroleum Company achieved a new oil discovery, GPD-1X, in the Sennan Development Area. Test results indicated a production rate of 625 barrels of oil per day, and the well has already been brought onstream.
Meanwhile, Petro Farah, in partnership with United Energy, announced the SEMR D-3X discovery. Initial test results revealed a production rate of 647 barrels of oil per day, with plans to connect the well to production following the signing of the development agreement.
At Agiba Petroleum Company, drilling operations at the Nada-NE-4 well yielded positive evaluation results. The well is expected to produce approximately 340 barrels of oil per day and 9 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Together, these discoveries mark a significant step in strengthening Egypt’s energy production capacity and reinforcing the sustainability of its hydrocarbon sector.
