CAIRO - 26 January 2026: The Food Export Council (EFC) announced that Egypt’s food industries sector posted a record performance in 2025, with export revenues climbing to $6.807 billion, compared with $6.097 billion in 2024. This marks a growth rate of 12 percent, translating into an absolute increase of $711 million.

According to the council, the results confirm the rising importance of the food industries as a key pillar of Egypt’s non-oil export base. The sector accounted for nearly 14 percent of total non-oil exports, placing it third among the country’s leading export sectors.

Food exports followed a consistent upward trend throughout the year. In the first quarter, exports reached $1.6 billion, registering growth of 2 percent. The second quarter saw exports rise to $1.8 billion, reflecting growth of 13 percent, supported by higher shipments of processed food products and stronger demand from Arab and European markets.

Growth momentum accelerated further in the third quarter, with exports totaling $1.8 billion and expanding by 15 percent. The strongest performance came in the fourth quarter, when exports reached $1.6 billion, recording an 18 percent increase compared with the same period in 2024.

From a geographic perspective, Arab countries remained the largest destination for Egyptian food exports, importing $3.4 billion worth of products, or 51 percent of total exports. The European Union followed with imports valued at $1.3 billion, accounting for 19 percent of the total, while exports to non-Arab African countries stood at $516 million. Shipments to the United States reached $438 million, posting robust growth of 36 percent.

At the individual market level, Saudi Arabia ranked as the top importer with $563 million in food exports, followed by the United States at $438 million, Sudan at $344 million, and Libya at $299 million. Other markets, including Algeria, China, and Lebanon, also recorded strong growth, underscoring the widening geographic footprint of Egyptian food exports.

In terms of products, frozen strawberries led export items, generating $697 million in revenues and achieving a record growth rate of 82 percent. Soft drink concentrates ranked second at $563 million, followed by edible oils at $432 million. The top ten exported products collectively accounted for around 53 percent of total sector exports, highlighting a clear focus on higher value-added goods.

The council noted that exports to the top 20 importing countries totaled approximately $4.7 billion, representing nearly 70 percent of overall food exports. Meanwhile, the top 30 exported products accounted for about 89 percent of total sector exports, with a combined value approaching $6 billion.
