Cairo - 25 December 2025: The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has decided to reduce the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate, and the main operation rate by 100 basis points, setting them at 20.00 percent, 21.00 percent, and 20.50 percent, respectively. Additionally, the discount rate has been lowered to 20.50 percent.
This move is based on the Committee’s updated assessment of inflation trends and its revised outlook since the last meeting.
This latest decision follows a series of rate reductions made throughout the year, totaling 725 basis points. These cuts were implemented across five successive adjustments: 2.25 percent in April, 1 percent in May, 2 percent in August, 1 percent in October, and 1 percent in December.
These actions align with the CBE’s ongoing monetary policy, which seeks to support financial stability and foster economic growth, in light of positive inflation trends and currency market performance.
