CAIRO - 11 November 2025: Mohamed Shimi, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector, met with senior representatives from China’s Envision Energy, led by Vice President Frank Yu, along with a delegation from Benchmark Power International headed by Chairman Ahmed Bahgat.
The meeting focused on moving forward with the planned green ammonia production facility at Al Nasr Fertilizers in Ataqa, Suez Governorate.
Under the proposed framework, Al Nasr Fertilizers will partner with Benchmark as the lead project developer and Envision Energy as the technology provider.
The parties will establish a joint venture company specifically to develop and operate the green ammonia project.
This initiative aligns closely with Egypt’s long-term sustainability agenda and its strategy to expand its role in the global green energy market.
With approval to operate as a free zone project, the plant will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources.
The first phase aims to produce 420,000 tons of green ammonia annually, with the majority earmarked for export.
Minister Shimi highlighted that the project marks a critical step in reducing carbon emissions and accelerating Egypt’s shift to a low-carbon, green economy.
He emphasized that integrating renewable energy into industrial production enhances energy security and reduces reliance on fossil fuels, while positioning Egypt as a competitive regional hub for clean energy exports.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strategic partnerships with the private sector as a key driver of growth and modernization within state-owned enterprises.
The collaboration with global industry leaders demonstrates increasing international confidence in Egypt’s investment climate and will support the transfer of advanced technologies, increase productivity, and contribute to sustainable economic value creation.
