CAIRO - 8 September 2025: Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Saturday a new natural gas discovery in the Western Desert, made through Badr El-Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO), a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Shell.

According to the statement, the newly discovered well, located in the Bed-15 development area, has been connected to the national production network immediately after testing.

The well is currently producing around 16 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, along with 750 barrels of condensates daily.

The ministry indicated that the discovery is expected to add roughly 15 billion cubic feet of natural gas to Egypt’s proven reserves.

Technical teams are now reassessing the reservoir to identify the most promising drilling locations for further development wells in the coming period.

The ministry said the discovery aligns with Egypt’s ongoing strategy to boost domestic gas output, reduce reliance on imports, and support energy security efforts.

The Western Desert remains one of the country’s most active regions for oil and gas exploration, with ongoing projects involving both domestic companies and international partners.
