The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has cemented its place among the world’s most celebrated cultural landmarks, earning international recognition for its architectural brilliance, environmental leadership, and intelligent design.

Renowned as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions, the GEM upholds the highest standards of excellence, boasting eight ISO certifications across energy management, environmental performance, quality control, and occupational health and safety.

The museum’s journey of distinction began in 2022, when it received the Gold Certification for Green Building and Sustainability from Egypt’s National Housing and Building Research Center, alongside the “Best Green Construction Project” award, honoring its eco-friendly design and energy-efficient systems.

In 2023, the GEM was recognized at the Global BIM Awards as the “Best Smart Building Model”, a testament to its innovative use of digital technology and data-driven engineering throughout its development.

By 2024, the museum achieved the EDGE Global Certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), becoming the first green museum in Africa and the Middle East.

That same year, it won the UNESCO-endorsed Prix Versailles Global Award, a prestigious honor celebrating its harmonious blend of ancient inspiration and modern design.

Continuing its momentum, 2025 saw the GEM win the “Best Project Worldwide” award for FIDIC international contract users, placing it among the world’s top engineering achievements. It also received official certification for its comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) report, developed with the National Accreditation Council and the General Organization for Export and Import Control — reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainable cultural development.

These achievements have not gone unnoticed. Around the world, media outlets and cultural bodies have celebrated the Grand Egyptian Museum as a defining project of the century.

The Times of London hailed it as “the greatest cultural and civilizational project of the 21st century,” ranking it among the ten mega-projects that will reshape human civilization.

UNESCO praised its unique design and visionary concept, declaring that “the entire world is waiting for the day of its opening.”

The Telegraph named it one of the most important destinations for global travelers, while The Christian Science Monitor called it a cornerstone of Egypt’s economic revival, expecting it to attract over five million visitors annually.

The Daily Mail described the GEM as “one of the modern wonders of the world,” spotlighting the unprecedented display of King Tutankhamun’s treasures in their entirety for the first time.

From Asia, China’s Xinhua News Agency praised the museum as a cutting-edge cultural and scientific hub, and The New York Times concluded that “the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum will astonish the world, placing Egypt once again at the heart of global cultural tourism.”
