CAIRO – 3 September 2025:  The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that financial inclusion has climbed to 76.3 percent of the adult population as of June 2025.

According to a CBE statement, the number of citizens who own and actively use financial accounts—whether through banks, Egypt Post, mobile wallets, or prepaid cards—rose to 53.8 million in June 2025, representing 76.3 percent of adults aged 15 and above. This compares with 74.8 percent in December 2024.

The data further revealed a rise in inclusion among women, reaching 70 percent in June 2025, up from 68.8 percent six months earlier.

Financial inclusion among young people also showed continued growth, rising to 54.4 percent in June 2025 from 53.1 percent in December 2024. The CBE attributed this progress to measures aimed at empowering youth financially, including permitting bank account openings from the age of 15.

Overall, financial inclusion in Egypt has expanded by 214 percent between 2016 and June 2025, reflecting broader access to financial services across society.

The CBE emphasized that its Financial Inclusion Strategy (2022–2025) is grounded in rigorous methodologies for measuring financial access nationwide—covering availability, usage, and quality of services.

The strategy also focuses on diversifying both banking and non-banking products to meet the needs of different customer groups, while enhancing the legislative and regulatory framework to ensure that all segments of society are integrated into the formal financial system.
