CAIRO - 19 August 2025: Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed that the value of trade between Egypt and Japan increased to $386 million during the first five months of 2025, compared to $342.7 million during the same period in 2024, a 12.6 percent increase.
The value of Egyptian exports to Japan reached $27.5 million during the first five months of 2025, compared to $31.7 million during the same period in 2024, a 13.3 percent decrease. Meanwhile, the value of Egyptian imports from Japan reached $358.5 million during the first five months of 2025, compared to $311 million during the same period in 2024, a 15.2 percent increase.
The most important commodity groups that Egypt imported from Japan during the first five months of 2025 were:
1. Cars, tractors, and motorcycles, valued at $102 million.
2. Boilers, machinery, equipment, and mechanical tools worth $81.2 million.
3. Rubber and its products worth $24.9 million.
4. Electrical machinery, appliances, and equipment worth $24.7 million.
5. Iron or steel products worth $18.8 million.
6. Iron and steel worth $17.8 million.
7. Optical instruments and devices worth $17 million.
8. Pharmaceutical products worth $14.1 million.
9. Plastics and their products worth $11.4 million.
10. Organic chemical products worth $7.8 million.
The statistics indicated an increase in the value of Japanese investments in Egypt, reaching $73.2 million during the 2023/2024 fiscal year, compared to $68.4 million during the 2022/2023 fiscal year, a 7 percent increase.
The value of remittances from Egyptians working in Japan reached $5.6 million during the fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to $5.1 million during the fiscal year 2022/2023, an increase of 11 percent. The value of remittances from Japanese workers in Egypt reached $1.3 million during the fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to $1.1 million during the fiscal year 2022/2023, an increase of 18.2 percent.
