Hassan Abdalla reappointed as Acting Governor of CBE

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has renewed the mandate of Hassan Abdalla as Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) for one year, starting August 18, 2025, and ending August 17, 2026.

 

Abdalla brings with him decades of banking, corporate, and academic experience. He previously sat on the CBE’s Board of Directors for eight years, served on the board of the Egyptian Exchange, and held leadership roles across international institutions including the Institute of International Finance (IIF), the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), and its Africa Advisory Group.

 

He also chaired the Union of Arab and French Banks in Hong Kong and founded the “Wafaa’ Le Misr” Foundation.

 

In the private sector, Abdalla led the Arab African International Bank as CEO and Vice Chairman, after beginning his career there in 1982. Since 2021, he has been Chairman of United Media Services. He also played key roles in the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council and the Egyptian Junior Business Association.

 

Alongside his executive career, Abdalla has contributed to academia, serving nearly three decades as a faculty member at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and joining the advisory board of its School of Business. He holds both a Bachelor’s degree and an MBA from AUC.
