Egypt’s unemployment rate eases to 6.1% in Q2 2025

CAIRO - 16 August 2026: Egypt’s unemployment rate declined to 6.1 percent in the second quarter of 2025, down 0.2 percent from the previous quarter, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
The labor force increased by 0.5 percent to reach 33.614 million people, driven by a 0.7 percent rise in employment and a 2.7 percent drop in unemployment.
 
The number of unemployed fell to 2.054 million, including 932,000 men and 1.122 million women. The unemployment rate among men stood at 3.5 percent, while the rate among women dropped to 15.8 percent.
 
Total employment rose to 31.559 million people, reflecting stronger participation in the labor market.
 
Education remained a key factor, with 78.2 percent of the unemployed holding intermediate, above-intermediate, or university qualifications. University graduates and above accounted for the largest share at 44.8 percent.
 
By sector, agriculture and fishing absorbed 21.3 percent of workers, followed by wholesale and retail trade (16 percent), manufacturing (13.1 percent), and construction (11.5 percent).
