CAIRO – 10 May 2025: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly commenced a visit to the East and West Port Said regions, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), to inspect ongoing work and inaugurate several major projects.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) currently encompasses a total of 262 industrial, service, and logistics projects, which have collectively generated approximately 40,200 job opportunities. In addition, the zone includes 10 major investment projects within its seaports.
To date, 387 companies have been established within the zone, benefiting from diverse foreign investments from a wide range of countries across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Between July 1, 2022, and March 31, 2025, the SCZONE issued a total of 77 operating licenses and 137 building permits, reflecting the zone’s growing role as a dynamic hub for regional and international investment.
During the tour, Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized that the development of ports and industrial zones is a key pillar in realizing Egypt’s economic vision, highlighting their crucial role in enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and attracting increased foreign direct investment. He added that these projects also play a direct role in generating sustainable job opportunities and improving the efficiency of supply chains.
At the outset of his tour today of the East Port Said Integrated Area, Madbouly visited the Suez Canal Container Terminal Company at East Port Said Port. The terminal is the largest of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean, which boasts a handling capacity of 7 million containers.
Eng. Ashraf Abdel Shafi, Director of Projects and Development at the Suez Canal Container Terminal Company, stated that the terminal enjoys a strategic location at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal. It spans approximately 1.2 million square meters and features a quay length of 2,400 meters. The terminal has attracted investments totaling around one billion US dollars.
