Egypt has officially launched eSIM technology, allowing mobile users to activate digital SIM cards on their phones. Starting Thursday, Dec. 5, customers across the country can visit the branches of all four mobile operators to activate eSIM on their devices.

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) announced the rollout after completing all necessary technical tests with the mobile operators.

The new technology allows users to use a digital SIM card instead of the traditional physical SIM.

To activate eSIM on new phones, customers must visit the operator's branch, choose a mobile number, and sign the contract. The sales representative will then provide a QR code that customers can scan to complete the eSIM activation.

For users wishing to switch from a physical SIM to an eSIM on existing numbers, the process is similar. Customers will need to visit their operator’s branch, sign a contract for the eSIM, and have the physical SIM swapped out.

A QR code will be printed for activation, which must be scanned within five days. If the code expires, customers will need to visit the branch again to get a new code.

The introduction of eSIM is a significant step toward modernization in Egypt's telecom sector, offering more flexibility and the ability to manage multiple phone numbers on a single device.
