CAIRO - 29 May 2024: The Egyptian delegation, led by Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and Governor of Egypt at the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Hassan Abdullah, along with Minister of International Cooperation (MoIC) and Alternate Governor of Egypt at AfDB, Rania Al-Mashat, actively participated in the 59th session of the AfDB annual meetings.

These meetings took place in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, from May 27 to 31.

Egypt's delegation joined the meetings as part of its commitment to enhancing cooperation with African nations and strengthening relationships with key development partners.

Over the years, the collaboration between Egypt and the AfDB has resulted in a substantial portfolio of approximately $7 billion since 1974.
In terms of contributions, Egypt stands as the third largest contributor to the AfDB's capital among the 81 member states.
Moreover, it is one of the six African countries that donate to the African Development Fund.

During the meetings, Al-Mashat held a productive discussion with Andrew Mitchell, the British Minister for International Development.
The purpose of this meeting was to explore opportunities for cooperation between Egypt and the UK in the areas of agriculture and food security.

Additionally, the meeting aimed to strengthen coordination efforts in implementing the NWFE program, while also reinforcing Egypt's energy security and climate action initiatives.

The British side offered a generous grant of $7 million to support these endeavors.

Furthermore, Al-Mashat and the British side discussed joint cooperation in implementing the development policy financing program and explored relations with the British Export Credit Agency (UKEF).
