CAIRO – 22 April 2024: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Hamdy Abdel Aziz stated in a phone-in Sunday that the decline rate of production estimated at 15 percent on average annually was a normal phenomenon in all gas fields worldwide.

The official said that the 19th development well was being dug in the same proven production area in order to increase the output, noting that Zohr gas field had produced - since it began operation six years ago - five trillion cubic feet and nine million condensate barrels.

Zohr's peak production was in 2022 as its daily output amounted to 2.7 billion cubic meters. By that year, the size of investments in the field had hit $12 billion and the number of production wells was 16.

Eni discovered Egypt's giant Zohr gas field in 2015. In December 2017, the company started production from the field whose reserves were estimated at 30 trillion cubic feet, which made it the biggest gas field in the Mediterranean.
