Egypt's commodity exports surge by 5.3% to $9.6B in Q1 2024

CAIRO - 16 April 2024: Egypt's commodity exports increased by 5.3 percent during the first quarter of 2024, reaching $9.6 billion, according to data from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
 
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, and the United States were the top destinations for Egyptian commodity exports.
 
Egyptian exports to Turkey amounted to $874 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with $792 million, the UAE with $586 million, Italy with $544 million, and the United States with $471 million.
 
The structure of Egyptian commodity exports during the first quarter of the current year included construction materials valued at about $2 billion, food industries valued at $1.5 billion, chemical and fertilizer products valued at $1.4 billion, agricultural products valued at $1.4 billion, engineering and electronic goods valued at $1.3 billion, and ready-made garments valued at $673 million.
 
They also contained yarn and textiles valued at $273 million, printing, packaging, paper, books, and art supplies valued at $244 million, medical industries valued at $156 million, furniture valued at $141 million, furnishings valued at $67 million, handicrafts valued at $52 million, and leather, footwear, and leather products valued at $34 million.
 
Among the notable items that saw an increase in Egyptian commodity exports during the first quarter of 2024 were fresh and dried fruits valued at $625 million, nitrogen fertilizers valued at $421 million, insulated wires and cables valued at $339 million, petroleum oils valued at $317 million, and gold valued at $303 million.
