CAIRO – 3 April 2024: A governmental source told Al Sharq that the number of international tourists rose by almost four percent in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year recording 3.7 million; yet, the figure for Sharm El Sheikh fell by 20 percent.

In 2023, the figure of international tourists to Egypt jumped by 27.4 percent hitting 14.9 million, which is the highest in the country's history.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Eissa stated in February that despite the outbreak of the war in Gaza Strip in October, Egypt received 3.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2023. That is an eight-percent increase in comparison to the same period in 2022.

Minister Eissa stated in January that the country accomplished the highest number of tourist arrivals in 2023 and that is 14.906 million. The second highest figure took place in 2010 with 14.731 million visitors.
