CAIRO - 19 February 2024: Directorate-General for Energy at the European Commission, Ditte Juul Jørgensen, stated that there is an increase in energy usage by more than 50 percent, adding that the Commission’s vision for the years 2024 and 2025 relies on this increase in energy usage.

"COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh was a wonderful host and a step towards addressing climate change, accelerating energy transition, and contributing to the close partnership with Egypt in dealing with the energy sector,” Jørgensen stated.

"We strengthen the partnership that leads to energy security and provides us with clean energy investments and several green hydrogen projects, reliance on renewable energy, and energy transition. It has a close relationship with the security agenda and climate change agenda and attracts more partnerships, which is the goal of the relationship between Egypt and the European Union in the coming years,”  Jorgensen added during her speech at a dialogue session within the opening events of the seventh edition of Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2024, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

She continued that the challenges are significant, and there are major crises in the world related to energy, which needs stimulus to support the energy file. We support cooperation with Egypt in the field of energy, natural gas, and renewable energy. There is an increase in demand for energy in Egypt and the world, and we recognize this in the planning process.

The conference aims to emphasize the importance and necessity of balancing the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, securing their supplies in more responsible and environmentally friendly ways to preserve economic growth and meet the needs of peoples. This is achieved through the commitment of the oil and gas industry to implement carbon emissions reduction techniques in parallel with the development of green and renewable energies, especially hydrogen.

The conference, in its new edition, witnesses significant international attendance and participation from the global energy sector, with the presence of numerous ministers and officials responsible for energy sectors representing their countries. Heads of regional and international energy organizations and CEOs of major global energy companies are also present.

The first two days of EGYPS 2024 include the launch of the strategic conference with the participation of ministers and leaders of the energy industry and CEOs of major global energy, oil, and gas companies.
