CAIRO - 19 November 2023: A high-level roundtable for the launch of the first Nexus for Water, Food and Energy platform -the NWFE program - report titled “A Year of Implementation” took place on Sunday.
The round table witnessed an intense international participation from the heads of international financial institutions and development partners, including Odile Renaud Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Gerardine Mukeshimana, Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the EBRD, Mohamed Al-Azizi, Director General of North Africa at the African Development Bank (AfDB), and Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt.
It also witnessed the participation of representatives of the World Bank Group (WBG), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the EU, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), representatives of France, the United States of America, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives of the private sector, the parliament, and media institutions.
In July 2022, the Ministry of International Cooperation, in coordination with national entities and development partners, launched the NWFE program.
This initiative supports the state's efforts in implementing the National Strategy for Climate Change 2050, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and Egypt Vision 2030 by enhancing efforts in climate change mitigation and adaptation. It also aligns with Egypt's presidency of the COP27 climate conference.
