Egypt seeks to enhance investments with Greek and Cyprus

CAIRO - 25 September 2023: Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed Egypt’s commitment to enhance the Cypriot and Greek investments nationally, continuing upon the success that was already established in various fields, including the fields of natural gas and electrical interconnection.

This came in a meeting between Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly with his counterparts from Greece and Cyprus to discuss further cooperation, during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September the 22nd, in New York.

Also, during the UN assembly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid pointed towards the solidarity and continuity between the countries, in the fields of politics, economics, and cultural aspects. Also highlighting the mutual support that was recognized during the multiple and regional forums and meetings attended by the countries.

In a recent visit by the Cypriot President to Egypt in April, an agreement was signed to establish a joint business council between the two countries. They also agreed on the significance of convening at the second meeting of the Joint High Committee between the two countries at the earliest opportunity.

Moreover, there was a clear intention to further continue developing the cooperation between the countries whether on a bilateral level or on multilateral level. The ministers expressed motivation to maintain their close consultation on the various regional and international issues, and developments.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that a large section of the discussions were based on the means to further promote investing and economic development in Egypt, to explore more areas for mutual collaborations.

Minister Shoukry drew attention to the importance of transforming this political alignment into projects that will benefit both countries, which in turn will require complementary efforts to further develop the friendly relations between the two countries. The ministers emphasized the importance of avoiding any obstacles that may retard the immediate implementation of these projects.
