CAIRO - 13 September 2023: Egypt Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Tarek El-Molla, received Terje Bielskog, CEO of the Norwegian company SCATEC, the leader in the field of green energy solutions.
 
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the Norwegian company’s implementation of the green methanol production project, which is the first of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East. 
 
Al-Mulla confirmed that the two projects come within the framework of the state’s approach to the green economy and a new step added to the efforts of the petroleum sector in reducing emissions, removing carbon, and implementing environmentally friendly green energy projects that enjoy great support from the political leadership. 
 
He noted that the Norwegian company is one of the largest leading global companies in In the areas of green energy, these projects contribute to implementing the goals of the petroleum sector strategies for sustainable development and reducing emissions, in addition to the possibility of exporting to European and Asian countries, which places Egypt among the leading countries in manufacturing and exporting green chemical products.
 
For his part, the head of the Norwegian company confirmed that the green ammonia production project aims to produce 150 thousand tons annually of green ammonia by producing 26 thousand tons annually of green hydrogen and converting it to green ammonia at the MOPCO factory in Damietta. 
 
He explained that the green methanol production project is targeted to be established in Damietta Governorate to take advantage of its proximity to the inputs for green methanol production, which are salty seawater and biocarbon dioxide produced from the Egyptian Bioethanol Company’s factory, to produce 40 thousand tons annually of green methanol.
