CAIRO – 17 August 2023: Chairman of the General Authority for HealthCare (GAH) Ahmed El-Sobky signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sabuhi Attar, the president of the Turkish-Arab Countries Business Association (TÜRAP), on Thursday, August 17. The purpose of the MoU is to establish cooperation in the field of medical tourism and promote healthcare investment opportunities between Egypt and Turkey.

El-Sobky emphasized that the MoU will facilitate the EHA's access to 29 countries in the medical tourism sector. He further stated that this cooperation will lead to increased healthcare investments in Egypt, Turkey, and Arab countries, and will contribute to the economic growth and the provision of high-quality healthcare services to international citizens.

El-Sobky added that this will contribute to the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and the promotion of development in the health sector, noting that these meetings reflect the national strategy to move forward towards expanding future partnerships, strengthening International cooperation, and encouraging health investments.

The signing of the MoU took place during the three-day Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum held in Istanbul on August 16-18.

In his address to the conference, El-Sobky said that Egypt is now better prepared to meet the requirements of medical tourism markets. "Medical tourism has witnessed an unprecedented boom in terms of developing infrastructure and information technology of hospitals, enhancing medical capabilities, and providing full medical care to citizens," he added.

Egypt and Turkey recently restored their ties and have a goal to enhance trade relations aiming to increase trade volume to $15 billion over the next 5 years. This came during Egypt’s trade minister’s visit to Turkey for the first time in 10 years.
