CY Plus to establish new production plant in cooperation with Petroleum Ministry

CAIRO – 9 August 2023: Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla, met with President of German Company CY Plus Stefan Wilbers, to discuss the company’s interest in establishing a new production line for Sodium Cyanide in Egypt, according to a ministry statement released Wednesday.

Sodium cyanide is a significant component of the gold extraction process from rocks, the new production line is said to increase gold quantities.

CY Plus is a leading company in the field with advanced technology services and innovative solutions. The company ensures safe use of the cyanide production, transportation, and disposal and works on enhancing innovative technologies to develop mining processes.

The minister mentioned the importance of working towards developing the industry in a sustainable way and implementing green mining requirements. He stressed on increasing the mining capabilities, while working towards reducing environmental harmful emissions.

Wilbers and El-Molla discussed the establishment process and agreed on forming a study group that will be dedicated for finding a suitable location in the Eastern Dessert for the new production line. The study group will also work on researching the required technologies and local market needs.

El-Molla stated that the ministry is working on a strategic plan to enhance mining activity and establish more factories that will boost it, especially the factories importing products in foreign currency.
