CAIRO - 11 July 2023: Egypt received more than 7 million tourists during the first half (H1) of 2023, the highest level in Egypt’s history, according to Tourism Minister Ahmed Issa. This came during his meeting with the permanent committee for licensing hotel and tourist establishments on July 10.
Egypt's tourism industry is currently experiencing a significant resurgence as the country has become a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers.
Issa also stated that German tourists visited Egypt the most during H1 of 2023. He pointed out that this is the first time in Egypt’s history to witness such growth in the number of tourists, the number of nights booked, as well as the regularity and diversity of the sources of the exporting tourism markets.
Issa also indicated that the ministry aims to receive 15 million tourists by the end of this year, explaining that the rates achieved so far indicate the possibility of achieving more than that. The tourism minister previously unveiled that Egypt aims to attract 18 to 20 million tourists in 2024.
One of the main factors contributing to the growth of tourism in Egypt is the government's efforts to promote the country's cultural and historical heritage.
Egypt has recently invested heavily in its tourism infrastructure, with the government launching several initiatives aimed at promoting the country's ancient landmarks and cultural attractions. These initiatives include the opening of new museums and tourist sites, as well as the restoration of historical monuments and temples.
The tourism minister stated that work in the Grand Egyptian Museum will be finalized at the end of September, in preparation for its opening by the end of this year. This came during the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, in the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
