CAIRO - 6 June 2023: An official source at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy revealed that the electrical interconnection project with Sudan, with a capacity of 300 megawatts, is considered to be a starting point for linking Egypt and Africa with a single electric grid.
 
The source explained that the first phase of the project has been put into operation, indicating that the compensators are being installed so that the line can be operated at its full capacity of 300 megawatts at the end of this year.
 
The source pointed out that there are strict instructions from Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity, that the energy that will be transferred to Sudan through electricity transmission lines is of the highest quality in accordance with international standards.
 
The source explained that the first phase of the electrical interconnection project with Sudan has a capacity of 300 megawatts, and expansion will take place. In this project, it will reach 3 thousand megawatts in the second phase of the project.
 
The source believes that the national electricity network in Egypt has become the strength that enables it to become a global hub for energy, through expansions and development works in the network.
