MCIT Minister: Communications and IT sector reached a growth rate of 16.3%

The communications and information technology sector has reached a growth rate of 16.3 percent, Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, stated.

Talaat said that the ministry’s efforts have contributed to boosting digital exports to reach $4.9 billion. The ministry also signed agreements with 29 international companies that annually increase exports at a total of $1 billion and provide 34,000 job opportunities through 35 export centers.

He also pointed to the reform measures introduced to create an enabling environment for business development in the ICT sector, including enacting the Anti-Cyber and IT Crimes Law and Personal Data Protection Law.

This came during his speech in a meeting that was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt in which a number of ministers, officials and representatives of private multinational companies also attended the meeting.

The minister also highlighted the Digital Egypt strategy and its objectives, which include: increasing the ICT sector’s contribution to the GDP, attracting FDI in the sector, introducing technology in all state sectors, and enhancing Egypt's capacity in global connectivity.
