CAIRO - 16 May 2023: Kamel El Wazir, the Egyptian Minister of Transport, met with Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, the Qatari Minister of Transport, to discuss cooperation across the transport sector.

In light of their bilateral cooperation, a Qatari urban transport company wants to manage and operate the Cairo Ring Road bus rapid transit (BRT) system. The name of the company was undisclosed.

The BRT system is one of Egypt’s most important sustainable mass transit projects to be implemented.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed latest developments related to the MoU that was signed between earlier the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and Maha Capital, the investment arm of the Qatar Investment Authority.

Earlier this month, The Egyptian Cabinet also approved an agreement between Egypt and Qatar that aims to eliminate double taxation on income taxes and prevent tax evasion and avoidance.

The agreement aims to eliminate double taxation applying to residents in one or both countries, and it also applies to a collective investment vehicle established in one of the two countries, and obtaining income that originates in the other country.
