CAIRO – 04 May 2023: The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the Norwegian Scatec Company signed an MoU to study connecting Egypt’s electricity grid to Europe through Italy.

The Egyptian Cabinet approved the MoU during its meeting this week.

The Cabinet also approved the Ministry of Transport’s request regarding issuing a law granting a commitment to build and develop the superstructure, use, manage, operate, exploit, maintain and re-deliver a multi-purpose station in the Safaga sea port.

This comes within Egypt’s framework to become a global trade and logistics hub by utilizing its strategic location on the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

Earlier this week, under its Fayoum Wastewater Expansion Program, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has awarded contracts to Al Kharafi & Sons and Samcrete.

Egypt’s Samcrete was awarded two contracts valued at €36.6 million to build new sewage networks and pump stations in Fayoum. Al Kharafi was granted a contract to design and build a new wastewater treatment plant with a 35k cbm/d capacity valued at €23.9 million.
