CAIRO - 26 April 2023: Trade Exchange and the markets of the African continent amounted to $2.117 billion during the first quarter of 2023, according to the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, Ahmed Samir.
 
Samir explained, in an official statement, that the value of Egyptian exports to the continent amounted to $1.611 billion, and the value of Egyptian imports from the continent amounted to $506 million.
 
A report from the General Authority for Export and Import Control on trade exchange between Egypt and the African continent during the first quarter of 2023 stated that the ministry is working during the current stage to achieve economic integration between the countries of the continent of Africa and to overcome obstacles that may hinder the movement of trade between countries.
 
Samir said that the ministry is working during the current stage to achieve economic integration between the countries of the continent of Africa and to overcome obstacles that may hinder the movement of trade between countries, and to benefit from the trade agreements signed between Egypt and the countries and blocs of the continent, such as the COMESA Agreement and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, in addition to expanding participation in specialized exhibitions, and increasing the presence of Egyptian commercial representation in many African countries.
 
For his part, Issam al-Najjar, head of the General Authority for Export and Import Control, said that the top five receiving markets for Egyptian exports included Libya with a value of $317 million, Sudan with a value of $226 million, Algeria with a value of $217 million, Morocco with a value of $191 million, and Tunisia with a value of $86 million.
 
The most prominent sectors that formed the structure of Egyptian exports to Africa during the first quarter of 2023 were construction materials with a value of $422 million, chemical products and fertilizers with a value of $358 million, food industries with a value of $242 million, and engineering and electronic goods with a value of $185 million, and medical industries with a value of $103 million.
 
In addition to printing, packaging, paper, books, and artistic works with a value of $98 million, agricultural crops with a value of $80 million, spinning and textiles with a value of $47 million, furniture with a value of $24 million, furnishings with a value of $18 million, ready-made garments with a value of $15 million, and handicrafts with a value of $14 million.
