CAIRO - 27 March 2023: Egypt Today reviews in this article the ongoing development and expansion works in the port of Ain Sukhna, which works to increase Egypt's share of the global market for transit trade.

The port will serve Egyptian exports and helping to open new markets for Egyptian exports by operating direct navigation services and increasing the ability to compete countries with similar products and industries, by developing integrated solutions for transportation and trading between sea container terminals, railway stations and multimodal transport services.

The total area of the port is 25 km 2, berths are 18 km long and 18 m deep. A network of internal roads is being implemented, as well as a network of railway lines connected to the high-speed electric train line, and 33 km of railway lines are being implemented. While 100% of the basins have been excavated, and the remaining works are being completed in the trading yards.

The total dredging amounted to 70 million cubic meters, and 9.5 million cubic meters were implemented by drying works. Roads were implemented with a length of 17 km and concrete paving for 6 lanes. Breakwaters are being erected in the port with a length of 3270 meters. The Ain Sokhna port development project also enhances the implementation of green hydrogen projects.
 
For his part, Eng. Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, confirmed that President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, directed the development of all Egyptian ports to make Egypt a global center of trade and logistics, especially given that Egypt’s location is a unique geographical location
 
He added that there are projects that have been implemented and contracted to manage and operate them, including the management and operation of container terminals in each of (Sokhna Port - Berth 100 in Dekheila Port) in partnership with the Hutchison Ports Alliance in cooperation with major international shipping companies (COSCO - MSC - CMA) - and the tourist passenger terminal Cruise ships at Sokhna Port in partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports, management and operation of dry and liquid bulk terminals, and a rolling stock station in Sokhna Port in partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports.
 
He pointed out that among the projects being implemented and put forward by the management and operation system in the port of Sokhna, the container terminal of the fourth basin in the port of Sokhna, the container terminal of the sixth basin in the port of Sokhna - the general cargo terminal in the sixth basin in the port of Sokhna - the petrochemical station in the sixth basin in the port of Sokhna.
