CAIRO – 15 July 2017: The first phase of the Airport City project is going to be launched within three months according to Aviation Minister Sherif Fathy in a press conference Wednesday.

“The project was delayed more than once due to the difficult economic situations our country has been through lately; however, the first phase that will be launched shortly will include 2.8 million cubic meters,” Fathy said.

The Airport City project was announced a long time ago by the Aviation Ministry; however, it was delayed more than once. The city is supposed to be established in the investment zone surrounding Cairo International Airport, offering different logistical services.

“Also, forty new planes are going to join the Egyptian Aircraft fleet during the coming period,” Fathy announced during the press conference held after Fathy’s meeting with Prime Minster Sherif Ismail Wednesday.

He added that the Civil Aviation Authority has a very strict plan regarding passengers’ security, saying, “We are following the international regulations for security and adhering to them.”

Earlier, an American delegation from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) started its regular inspection regulations in Cairo International Airport.

The delegation included two aviation experts, according to sources speaking to Egypt Today. The delegation was scheduled to follow up on the latest developments in the airport regarding passenger and parcel security.

The regular inspection was scheduled for two successive days, as a meeting was expected to take place with Aviation Ministry leaders by the end of the delegation’s tour.
