Egypt's external debt rises to $145.5 billion by end of 2021

CAIRO - 21 April 2022: Egypt’s external debt recorded an increase at the end of the second quarter of the current fiscal year 2021-2022 by about $8.1 billion, compared to the previous quarter of the same current fiscal year, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) recent data revealed.
 
According to the CBE's report on external debt published on its website earlier this week, Egypt's total external debt rose to $145.529 billion at the end of the second quarter of the current fiscal year (October to December) compared to $137.420 billion in the previous quarter (July to September).
 
Long-term debt represented the largest share of debt, amounting to $132.7 billion at the end of the second quarter of the current fiscal year, compared to $125.939 billion in the previous quarter of the same year, according to CBE data.
 
The percentage of short-term debts amounted to $12.842 billion of the total external debt during the second quarter of the current fiscal year, compared to $11.480 billion in the previous quarter of the same year.
 
Egypt's external debt reached $129.195 billion at the end of the second quarter of the fiscal year 2020-2021.
