Egypt's production index for transformative, extractive industries hikes 4.83% in December

CAIRO - 28 February 2022: Production index of manufacturing and extractive industries (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) hiked 4.83 percent in December on a monthly basis, recording 115.37 (primary), compared to 110.06 in November (final), according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
 
CAPMAS has updated the index methodology using the base year 2012/2013 and at the level of the industrial activity indices according to the Industrial Activity Index (ISIC Rev.4) and using the monthly index (for producer prices based on 2012/2013).
 
It noted that the pharmaceutical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries’ index reached 140.19 during December 2021, compared to 128.67 in November 2021, with an increase of 8.95 percent, due to the increase in the demand for medicines in light of the coronavirus crisis.
 
The index of the chemical materials and products industry hiked 7.01 percent, reaching 121.84 during December 2021, compared to 113.86 in November 2021, due to the increase in demand in light of the Corona crisis.
 
Meanwhile, the beverage industry index reached 224.69 during December 2021, compared to 232.43 in November 2021, marking a decrease of 3.33 percent, according to market needs as a result of the winter season.
 
The index of the manufacture of other transport equipment reached 110.77 during December 2021, down from 263.86 in November 2021, with a decrease of 58.02 percent, according to the needs of the market.
