CAIRO – 16 February 2022: US Ambassador to Cairo Jonathan Cohen hailed Egypt as an important regional energy hub for Africa, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean as he attended the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS) held from 14 to 16 February.

“Egypt has a proven track record of leadership in energy production, distribution, and security, as well as green technologies,” Cohen said, as he witnessed the signing of several deals between US companies and the Egyptian government, the US Embassy in Cairo said in a statement.

“The US government and private sector are proud to serve as partners in this vital work and to see a number of US companies sign agreements to provide quality U.S. products and services for local projects,” added the ambassador.

During EGYPS 2022, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum signed an MoU with Apache Oil Company to assist the ministry in training middle management employees.

The ministry also signed an MoU with AspenTech to provide for technical workshops, trainings, and certification programs, the embassy said.

MoUs also include one between the ministry and AmCham Egypt’s Oil and Gas committee to train middle management government employees.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated on Monday morning EGYPS 2022 under the slogan “North Africa and the Mediterranean: Developing Energy Today.”

The conference, held at Cairo-based International Exhibition Center (EIEC), has been participated by a wide number of international and local ministers of petroleum and energy, heads of global and local energy companies, international oil and gas organizations and petroleum industry experts.

“The current version of the EGYPS conference is of particular importance amid the current period, which requires coordination and communication between Egypt and all regional and international parties for the success of UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27) hosted by Sharm El-Sheikh this year,” said Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Tarek El Molla.
