CAIRO - 2 January 2022: Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, Reda Abdel Kader, stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Finance and the authority to integrate the informal economy into the official system, which would contribute to a more accurate inventory of the tax community, lay the foundations for tax justice, and fulfill the rights of the state’s public treasury.
He explained in a statement,Sunday that through follow-up and monitoring by the e-commerce unit of the authority, some malls, hotels, clubs, residential communities (compounds) or other residential areas allowed the establishment of exhibitions inside them, and that a large number of organizers and participants in these exhibitions ( Those who display their products inside the exhibitions) carry out the activity without having tax files at the authority.
Abdel Kadir pointed out that some merchants and sellers on some electronic platforms practice e-commerce activity, without having tax files for them at the authority.
According to what has been monitored by the E-Commerce Unit, the Egyptian Tax Authority warns the administrations of malls, hotels, clubs, residential compounds or other residential areas, as well as digital platforms from allowing any seller or merchant to engage in activity through their facility or digital platform without providing his tax card and registration of his tax number in the accounts of the departments of these establishments; In order to avoid falling under the law and violating the provisions of the Income Tax Law promulgated by Law No. (91) of 2005 and its amendments and executive regulations, the Value Added Tax Law promulgated by Law No. (67) of 2016 and its amendments and its executive regulations, and the Unified Tax Procedures Law promulgated by Law No. (206) ) for the year 2020, its amendments and its executive regulations.
