Egypt denies decline in spending on health, education sectors

CAIRO – 2 November 2021: The Egyptian Cabinet denied what was circulated on some websites and social media pages about the significant decline in government spending on the health and education sectors.

 

The Media Center of the cabinet contacted the Ministry of Finance, which denied the news, stressing that it’s not true that the government declined it’s pending on the health and education sectors.

 

It stressed that there is a great development and a noticeable increase in government spending on the health and education sectors on an annual basis, as the volume of spending on the health sector increased in the new general budget 2021/2022, to reach LE 108.8 billion, compared to LE 93.5 billion in the 2020/2021 budget, LE 73.1 billion in the 2019/2020 budget, and LE 61.8 billion in the 2018/2019.

 

 The Finance Ministry stated that the volume of spending on the education sector in the new general budget 2021/2022, reached LE 172.6 billion, compared to LE 157.6 billion in the 2020/2021 budget, LE 132 billion in the 2019/2020 budget, and LE 115.7 billion in the 2018/2019 budget.
