CAIRO – 31 October 2021: Egypt will start exporting gas to Lebanon by the end of 2021; this is after the ministry has finalized an action plan and a timetable for implementation, according to Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El-Molla.

 

The minister added, in an interview with CNBC said that Egypt's gas production ranges between 7- 7.2 billion cubic feet per day, and that exports of liquefied gas are about 1.8 billion cubic feet per day.

 

On September 8, the energy ministers of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan agreed during a meeting in Amman on a roadmap to supply Lebanon with Egyptian gas as soon as possible.

 

The energy ministers of four Arab countries, namely: Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon, agreed to deliver Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon, through Jordan and Syria, provided that they submit an action plan and a timetable for its implementation.

 

El-Molla said that Egypt is keen to support this cooperation, in recognition of the great importance of Egyptian natural gas to support Lebanon and meet the needs of its people, and based on its permanent role towards the Arab brothers in all issues, under the directives of President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi. .

 

He explained that Egypt is working to speed up coordination for the arrival of Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria, in the interest of Egypt to alleviate the burdens of the Lebanese people and contribute to supporting the brotherly country and its stability.

 

Lebanon is facing a shortage of energy supplies, in light of the worst financial and economic crisis in the country's history.
